SRI-2005 Detector Workshop
The satellite workshop on detectors scheduled for SRI-2005 at the Center for Advanced Microstructures & Devices (CAMD) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been rescheduled to December 8 and 9, 2005, and relocated to the Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois.

The most recent comprehensive workshop in the U.S. on synchrotron radiation (SR) detectors occurred a half decade ago. The consensus of the last U.S. workshop was that a clear gulf existed between the capabilities of modern synchrotrons to deliver high photon fluxes, and the capabilities of detectors to measure the resulting photon, electron or ion signals. During the last half decade, the world community, and especially the European community, has aggressively pursued detector research as a mechanism to enhance synchrotron capabilities and enable new research opportunities.
A small fund exists to support participants, especially students, who would otherwise have difficulty attending the SRI-2005 Detector Workshop. Financial support is limited to a maximum of $500 per person. If you wish to apply for support, please fill out the applications, below. Unfortunately, the support fund is limited, so it may not be possible to approve all requests. Applicants will be notified by the end of August of the level of approved support. Applicants who are approved for support must deliver receipts after the workshop for all expenses for which reimbursement is being requested. It typically takes 4 weeks to process the receipts and send out reimbursement checks.
Objective:
- To assess recent detector developments, both in the U.S. and abroad, in order to identify detector research opportunities that would enhance research capabilities at U.S.S.R. sources.
- To examine detector technologies, both short-term and long-term, and suggest a strategy to insure that the U.S. researchers are competitive, and remain so, in SR-based science.
- To acquaint young scientists with the present state-of-the-art in detector research and to convey exciting possibilities for the future.
- To document the conclusions of the workshop as an aid to future planning.
The proposal for the workshop will be submitted to NSF in near future. Several international speakers are planed to be invited to the workshop.
