Energy changes in CWIGGLER element.

Post by duangu » 23 Jul 2013, 09:58

Hi all,

I'm doing a emittance growth simulation with the CWIGGLER element but I find that in ELEGANT manual it says,
"N.B.: at present this element is not included in computations of beam moments (moments_output command)"
Does it mean we can't see the energy changes when beam passing through CWIGGLER element? If so, is there a way to make it?

thanks in advance!

Duan.

Duan,

It's a limitation only on the &moments_output command, because I haven't figured out how to compute the diffusion and damping matrices for a wiggler. You can simulate energy loss and quantum excitation by setting SYNCH_RAD=1 and ISR=1. Also, if you really need to use wigglers in &moments_output, try replacing the wiggler with a series of CSBENDs with alternating angles. Not pretty, but should be close to right.
