I would like to minimize the integral of Beta/Energy along a linac. Is there a smart way to do this, let's say without putting a MARK at every quad?

Putting a marker after each quad is the way to go.

It's relatively easy if you use the &insert_elements command to insert the markers.You can also use the template feature of &optimization_term to make it easy to create the optimization penalty function.
