Compounds and MATTER element

Dear Michael,
I'm trying to simulate a thin foil in the beam line, e.g. a Kapton.
The manual says, for thin materials one should provide A and Z (also rho) in addition to X0.
What is the meaning of these for a compound? (molecule)
Is it the average over the atoms which the molecule consists of? (sth like effective A/Z). Mass-weighted?
Thanks!
