tracking phase ellipse

Post by tennant » 15 Jun 2010, 13:01

Hi,

I have generated a phase ellipse which I want to track through a lattice to look at aberrations. Initially I was tracking through a vertical spreader and I see enormous offsets (both in y and y') in the vertical phase space after just the first dipole and quad. In fact, all particles are lost by the end of the spreader. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that I am using csrcsbends and dividing quadrupoles into slices. Is this correct? And what should I be doing to fix this?

Thanks,
chris

Chris,

I'd guess that using CSRCSBENDs is the problem. If you have a phase ellipse with zero bunch duration, the CSR will be enormous. Try a zero-charge beam or substituting a CSBEND. Splitting quads shouldn't be an issue per se.

Michael,

Yeah, the zero length bunch was the issue. Using csbends seems to work fine.

Thanks!
