Length of RBEN

Post by twatanabe » 11 Jun 2010, 23:37

Hi Michael,

The total length of beamline that elegant calculates is shown in the output log something like;
"length of beamline RING per pass: 1234.56 m",
for instance. It seems to me the length is a bit longer than the simple sum of each components, WHEN the beamline includes RBEN. If RBEN is replaced with SBEND, it exactly agrees. The manual says the 'length" of the RBEN is still an arc length, instead of physical length.
Is there any difference between the definition of length between RBEN and SBEND?

Thank you for your help always.

Takahiro,

The manual is wrong. For RBEN, the length is the straight length of the magnet, not the arc length.

Michael,

Thank you for the answer. It would be even better if we could choose a magnetic length or an arc length as we want. An arc length would be better to me when I calculate a ring, and a magnetic length would be better in my linac calculation.
Should I post it on the Feature Requests page?

Takahiro,

No need to post it on the features request. I've added it to my list.
