set n_kicks for ring tracking with a rf wavelength of 30um

Post by zhilong » 09 Mar 2019, 08:19

Hi Michael,

This days I face some problem for the n_kicks setting in kquad and csbend element. I am trying to do particle tracking in a ring wirh a extrame short wavelength cavity. The wavelength I use is 30 um. When I try to set the n_kinks in the element of kquad and csbend, the numerical error is still exist. Do you have some suggestions on the n_kicks choise on this condition? If it is possible to set the n_kicks as 10000 level?

Thanks so much

Zhilong

Zhilong,

The upper limit on N_KICKS for those elements is 2^31, so you can certainly set it to 10000. I'm not sure how this is related to the wavelength of the rf cavity. Are you concerned about getting the right path-length? If so, the REFERENCE_CORRECTION feature might help; see the discussion on manual page for CSBEND.
