beam loading and equilibrium

Post by drabusov » 21 Jan 2026, 10:13

Hi all,

I'm working on a simulation model for multi-bunch tracking with beam loading using RFMODE in an electron ring. I want to split the simulation into two steps.
Step 1. Tracking the initial distribution until it reaches its equilibrium (impedances and synchrotron radiation are included).
Step 2. Load the final distribution of the step 1 for further studies.

Is this not possible in Elegant? My problem is that the beam starts oscillating again at the step 2. I've tried both, adjusting v_initial and phase_initial parameters of RFMODE, as well as using the preload option.

The simulation setup includes two RFMODE elements, one active (main) cavity with feedback and a harmonic cavity. I've tried two fill patterns, with and without gaps. I'm using the 2022.2 version of Elegant.

Many thanks
Dmitrii
