Hi,

I am looking at various chicane configurations and their effects on CSR energy spread growth, and I ran into a configuration that shows a decrease inenergy spread which I am having a hard time to explain physically.

I have attached the .lte and .ele. I was wondering if you had any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Weihang,

This is certainly possible, depending on the initial longitudinal distribution. Assume the beam is chirped so that the head has lower energy than the tail (so that the bunch is compressed). The head is accelerated by CSR while the tail is decelerated, which leads to a reduction in energy spread. See
