Space Charge in Linac

Post by fliller » 06 Aug 2008, 14:06

I have an 10m section of linac that I'd like to track using space charge. Is there a way that I can do it with ELEGANT??? It seems like insert_sceffects would work, except that it says only to use with rings.....

Thanks.

Ray,

You really should use a program like ASTRA or IMPACT-T for this. elegant just isn't designed to do it.

ASTRA is pretty straightforward, and you can translate back and forth between ASTRA and elegant. I've attached some scripts to do this in case you need them.

Mike,

Thanks. That is what I thought. I've used ASTRA for such things. Howver, we have 4 dipoles in this section and to my knowledge, ASTRA is not too useful here. I've used CSR_track to simulate this section, but that takes a while. I was hoping to do some simulation that would have space charge effects, but not CSR effects to see which is contributing more.

Thanks anyway. At least it clears up the issue.

Ray,

You can consider using IMPACT-T. It has space charge and also the same CSR algorithm as elegant.
