Is Momentum Aperture really deterministic?
Hi, This may seem like a philosophical question but I am having some substantive issues with calculating the MA for the ALS-U storage ring. This is a very nonlinear lattice with strong bends and sextupoles, not to mention that the fractional horizontal and vertical tunes are almost identical. I set ...

Re: Some confusing issues with insert_elements
Hi Michael, Thanks, that did the trick. My workaround was to do a separate elegant run just to read in the nominal lattice, insert the elements, and save a revised lattice file using output_seq=1. With the new lattice I can still load in the same parameters file without a problem. I like your way si...

Some confusing issues with insert_elements
Hi, I use insert_elements to add TSCATTER elements for calculating losses due to Touschek scattering. Most of the time it works fine, but I am also using load_parameters as my way of reading in magnet errors. When both are used in one set of calculations *and* add_at_start=1, that very first inserti...

Re: manual a little out of date?
Yes, I was a little too quick to say that the parentheses are optional. Elegant didn't give an error when I tried leaving them out, but it just grabbed the first number and ignored the RPN calculations. In the lattice file, if I try to use parentheses it actually cannot parse the statement and exits...

manual a little out of date?
Hi, Just wanted to mention that a few things in the manual seem either wrong or out of date. I am using elegant version 34.4.1. On page 10, %s is described as taking the name of the lattice file (without the extension), but it seems to be the input file name (at least when there is one). On page 11,...

Re: Pelegant freezes up sometimes during touschek_scatter
Thank you Michael, using CHANGE_T=0 fixes that problem. Even after making that change, I do see one other occasional problem where Pelegant hangs as soon as the calculations of the losses starts. It only happens if I set overwrite_files=0 in touschek_scatter, and it's kind of erratic. When I use man...

Pelegant freezes up sometimes during touschek_scatter
I am having occasional trouble running simulations of particle losses due to touschek scattering. Pelegant will stop doing new calculations at some point, but there will not be any error message, it just hangs. It seems to happen whenever the number of "particles selected for tracking" is smaller th...

installing elegant on NERSC Cori
Hi, I just installed SDDS and elegant on the CORI system on NERSC. I haven't seen messages about installing on NERSC, so I thought it was worth mentioning what I did. I can give the full procedure if anyone is interested. Among other things, I had to remove the special ifeq (cori, $(findstring cori,...

problems with Mac binaries and touschek_scatter
Hi, I am starting to do ALS-U simulations based on Zhilong's work. Everything works on our LBL cluster, but when I try the Mac binaries on my desktop computer the code stops very quickly with the message "Terminated by SIGABRT". This is still true with the latest version, 34.4.1. I don't see this er...
