Horizontal Emittance in a ring with vertical bends
Hi Michael, I have a test ring with a horizontal emittance of 16nm-rad. If I add a vertical chicane (i.e. several CSBEND elements with TILT=pi/2) and recalculate the emittance, I get a value of 41nm-rad (using both the ex0 from the twiss file, and ibsEmittance) - note that the optics in the horizont...

Re: low-ish energy linacs
Hi Again Michael, Thanks for the hints on this one. I've been using both RFCW and TWLA since I started this thread. I have come across what seems to be an inconsistency. I've swapped two cavity structures (accelerating from ~70 MeV) and done a phase scan in both. In the first picture all looks ok, t...

low-ish energy linacs
Hi Michael, I'm putting together a simulation for our new machine and have a few things to ask. We're using 2998MHz 2pi/3 travelling wave structures. I want to do magnetic compression at ~70 MeV as we want a small energy spread at our FEL, which will be at ~250 MeV. I have elegant decks from other m...

Color density plots?
Hi Michael,
I've seen a few people showing sddsplot produced plots using color density to illustrate phase space distributions. Do I need to use sddscontour to make those or have I missed a feature in sddsplot?
Thanks
Peter

Re: R/T matrix output
Michael, The answer to my question is - yes, i am going crazy. I'd forgotten that the R-matrix elements are concatenated from the start of the beamline, so are "global" rather than local. So the plots are right and it's my understanding at fault - I could blame it on that friday afternoon feeling! H...

R/T matrix output
Hi Michael,
I'm investigating some effects in the arc of our ERL, ALICE. I did a quick test, plotting dispersion and R16, expecting them to be identical. But they're not. Am I going crazy?

linac errors
Hi Michael, We're doing a simple error analysis and have a little problem. Attched are a couple of files. We run twice, the first is a fiducial run with one particle, the second we apply an error to the voltage of cavities and track 1000 particles. The trouble comes when we make this error small. In...

Re: Chromatic amplitude functions
Michael, once again you are correct! Thank you.
I've just checked the mad-x manual and they have corrected this, there is now a factor of 1/2 in their definition of DDX. So this is a bug in mad-8.
Pete
