Re: Pelegant I/O issue for CSRDRIFT element

Thank you for looking into this, Michael. For now I am doing minimal serial runs when I want to look at the drift CSR.

Pelegant I/O issue for CSRDRIFT element

I have been trying out the CSRCSBEND and CSRDRIFT elements. They usually work great, but there is one corner case where Pelegant running on multiple nodes (not just multiple processes) has a problem writing the output file for a CSRDRIFT element specified through STUPAKOV_OUTPUT. It seems that the f...

Re: sddsplot issue in macOS 10.14

Hi, I am running Mac OS 10.15.7, and I wound up getting elegant and SDDS to install by using homebrew to install motif: brew install openmotif Before I tried that, I did brew install --cask xquartz which helped with some errors but wasn't enough. I'm not sure if openmotif will include xquartz or if ...

Re: Issue with the physical aperture

If you want to keep the aperture constant until the transitions, you can try this for the aperture file, giving the downstream aperture and then the upstream aperture at each transition point. That should also make everything work if you want to track particles backwards. Sounds like the manual need...

touschek_scatter calculation appears not to take closed orbit into account

I am having trouble using the touschek_scatter on some lattices with large errors. When I calculate the momentum aperture, it is significantly worse than the nominal machine, but looks like what I expect. There is also good agreement with calculations done with AT. However, when I do the lifetime ca...

issue with reference_correction and epitch/eyaw misalignments

Hi, I'm seeing a large discrepancy between tracking with and without REFERENCE_CORRECTION in CSBEND elements, when there is also an epitch or eyaw misalignment. The case with REFERENCE_CORRECTION=0 seems like a closer fit to AT calculations, and the final offset is much smaller which seems more reas...

"Six-dimensional" closed orbit

Hi, I am doing comparisons between AT and elegant tracking, and now I want to compare the closed orbits. With rf turned on and with deterministic synchrotron radiation losses, AT has a function "findorbit6" which calculates a closed orbit that includes the variation in energy, and I think it also re...

Word of warning about using CHANGE_T=1 in RFCA or RFCW elements

Hi, I just spent a lot of time tracking down a mistake that involved setting CHANGE_T=1 on a 3rd-harmonic RF cavity. Even though it's a harmonic of the fundamental RF, the time that is subtracted from particles can easily be 1/3 or 2/3 of the period of the main RF, giving big phase errors. And it's ...
