Many thanks for answering the question. And sorry for not remembering your post in the previous discussion where you already answered everything.

Re: Implementation of parallel I/O
After some discussions with IT guys it seems the basic question is: Why does parallel I/O not work on AFS? What functionality is missing which would be required to make it work? That seems to be a pretty general question. But I failed to find anything on this in the internet. Is this question too si...

Re: Implementation of parallel I/O
Many thanks for the information. Could you tell me even more details, e.g. which MPI functions are used for I/O, and some more technical aspects of the implementation? Which functionality has a file system to provide to allow proper parallel I/O?

Implementation of parallel I/O
To get a dedicated and parallel I/O capable fileserver for our "cluster" I was asked by our IT department to provide some information on the implementation of parallel I/O and the requirements. Could you please tell me how you have implemented this in Pelegant?
Best regards

Re: Parallel elegant with non-parallel SDDS
That's really a pity. It seems for the moment I have to stick to older Pelegant/SDDS versions without parallel I/O. At least it is a good argument for me to make IT improve our "cluster" (actually it is just a bunch of computers). Here at CERN this is always a fight.

Re: Parallel elegant with non-parallel SDDS
I think I compiled Pelegant and SDDS correctly. The problem could well be with the file server, since the files are located in AFS (not NFS). I have no idea how this behaves with parallel IO. Unfortunately, I do not have any influence on the file server or file system used. Do you have any experienc...

Parallel elegant with non-parallel SDDS
I recently upgraded my Pelegant/SDDS installation to the newest versions. The computers run Scientific Linux 4 and OpenMPI 1.2.6. But now I seem to run into problems with parallel I/O by SDDS. The usual result is that the *.bun and *.out files, i.e. input and output particle distributions, are cripp...

Re: DRIFT vs CSRDRIFT vs EDRIFT vs LSCDRIFT
Well... I just made a stupid mistake in my input files and then made a wrong interpretation of the cause of the strange output I got. So, forget what I wrote, everything is fine.

Re: DRIFT vs CSRDRIFT vs EDRIFT vs LSCDRIFT
Thanks, that's already good to know. But now I am in trouble, because you say EDRIFT, CSRDRIFT and LSCDRIFT all use exact drifting. I have a lattice with long drifts and arcs. The difference between using DRIFT and CSRDRIFT is negligible. But when I use EDRIFT I get some strange emittance growth in ...

Hello,
besides LSC in the LSCDRIFT and CSR in the CSRDRIFT, what are the differences between these drifts?
Best regards
