Wakefield Acceleration and the Transformer Ratio at the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator

Abstract

In 1982 the D.O.E. launched the Advanced Acceleration Program with the stated goal of developing techniques for the production of high gradient acceleration. Most of the research in this quest for high gradient acceleration has centered on various wakefield acceleration methods. A general introduction to wakefield acceleration, its limitation due to the transformer ratio, as well as recent experimental results from the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator will be presented.
