Pharmaceutical Macromolecular Crystallography at the APS

Lisa Keefe, IIT/IMCA-CAT

Host: K. Harkay

The Industrial Macromolecular Crystallography Association (IMCA) is a consortium of twelve pharmaceutical and consumer-product companies (Abbott, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GlaxoWellcome, Eli Lilly, Merck, Monsanto, Parke-Davis, Pharmacia& Upjohn, Procter & Gamble, Schering-Plough, SmithKline Beecham, and 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals) that use macromolecular crystallography as a tool in drug discovery. The IMCA-CAT beamlines are used to determine the atomic structure of proteins that are involved in various diseases (such HIV infection, diabetes, clotting diseases, pain management, and cancer) and inhibitors of these proteins that may be potential therapeutics for these diseases.
