1979-1983
- Research
Scientist, Biozentrum der Universitaet Basel,

- Assistant
Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology, University of Chicago, 1987-1994
- Associate
Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology, University of Chicago, 1994-1995
Activities
- Member
of the American Crystallographic Association, Protein
Society, AAAS
- Executive
committee member of the Michigan Center for Structural
Biology
- Management
Board member of Life Sciences CAT
Interests
- The use
of single crystal X-ray diffraction to determine the
structures of biomacromolecules; phase determination
using anomalous scattering; development of techniques for
membrane protein crystallization. Areas of
interest include the structure and function of
membrane proteins, structure and behavior of
protein-detergent micellar complexes, and drug design.
Recent work has focused on optimizing measurement
of X-ray data from small, weakly diffracting membrane
protein crystals and the high resolution structural
analyses of prostaglandin H synthases and cytochrome c
oxidase, as well as enzymes involved in lipid
biosynthesis.
