Argonne National Laboratory is about 45 minutes by car from each of the two major Chicago airports, O'Hare and Midway (see map). The map also shows the major roadways serving the Chicago area. Argonne is not near public transportation; therefore, it is strongly recommended that attendees rent a car while they're at FEL2002. Some of the car rental agencies serving both O'Hare (airport code: ORD) and Midway (airport code: MDW) airports are listed below.
Alamo Rent-a-Car
Driving from O'Hare Airport to Argonne:
Drive east (toward Chicago) on Interstate 190 to the exit for Interstate 294 south (toward Indiana). Go south on Interstate 294 to the exit for Interstate 55 south (toward St. Louis); then take the southbound Cass Avenue exit (273A) off Interstate 55. Northgate Road, the entrance to the Laboratory's main gate, is on the right.
Driving from Midway Airport to Argonne:
Take Cicero Avenue north to the entrance to Interstate 55 south (toward St. Louis), which will be on your left. Take the southbound Cass Avenue exit (273A) off Interstate 55. Northgate Road, the entrance to the Laboratory's main gate, is on the right.
