Objective: | To provide the "Future Light Source Community" information on:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Working Group Activities: | The working group will aim at identifying and evaluating laser based sources
for radiation
production, with projected performance characteristics that meet the needs
determined by input
from Group I. As a roadmap, each radiation source will be characterized through
a discussion of
its present day performance parameters (including planned experiments), and a
discussion of an
extrapolation path towards meeting the future light source needs. The following
topics are
suggested for discussion:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Working Group Input/Output: | Provide summary of state-of-the-art performance of high power
lasers and identify
technological challenges for future systems. Evaluation of laser system needs
will be guided
by radiation source requirements.
As a final goal, the working group will aim at summarizing the laser technology and laser-based radiation sources through tabulating present day performance and realistic extrapolation into the future. The group will also identify physics and technology challenges for future sources. |

Schedule of Presentations to the Working Group: | The working group is organized around the topics discussed in the Working Group Objectives. There are 8 speakers invited to give a summary of the "state-of-affairs" in (a) lasers, (b) laser/e-beam based sources, (c) laser/gas based radiation sources and (d) laser-plasma based radiation sources. Ample time is allocated for discussion on the material presented, as well as short presentations (10 min.) of planned or ongoing experiments/ideas. I have only received one abstract for a short presentation (A. Ting) so please send in an abstract if you would like to make a short presentation.
