Station 16.5 is the latest ultra-dilute EXAFS facility at the
Daresbury synchrotron radiation source. The data acquisition
software is implemented in a client-server fashion. Users interact
with window based interfaces which run on a UNIX workstation. These
interfaces send commands over a local network to programs running
on VME based systems. Programs on the VME systems communicate
directly with boards which control motors, detectors or other
hardware. In this paper we describe the user interfaces and the
factors taken into account in their development.
