In search for portable, configurable evironment to build
a system for data collection, reduction and visualization,
we have decided to use Tcl as the platform, because of its
strengths as an excellent graphical user interface building
system. We began constructing building blocks, in the form
of loadable Tcl extensions, for many of these data-related
functions. This paper presents such extensions to manipulate
binary data arrays, including their on-screen display. See also
accopanying paper on Tcl extensions for experiment control and
data collection, and for interfacing to NeXus disk files.
