Seismic Noise Studies for Fermilab Next Big Accelerator.

Abstract:

There are several proposals of future accelerator facilities at Fermilab: muon collider, linear collider, very large hadron collider. All of these colliders are very sensitive with respect to external noises. Seismic vibrations are considered among the most severe disturbances. This article describes equipment and results of extended seismic studies held in 1997 at Fermilab site and around. We present spectral and correlation characteristics of the ground motion and compare results with accelerators tolerances.
