Title of Presentation:

The alignment of LHC : review of the metrological aspects

Abstract:

The LHC project is coming into an intensive preparation stage. Several superconducting dipole and quadrupole magnets have been built and tested, and the parameters of the machine are becoming more and more fixed. This machine will consist of about 3000 cryomagnets and warm magnets to be aligned along the transfere lines and the 27 km of the actual LEP tunnel.

A review of the metrological aspects due to the specifics of the machine will be done. Particular emphasis will be put on the geometrical measurements made on the dipole cold masses, as well as some considerations for a preliminary study of a method for the remote control of the stability of the machine.
