Job Description:
Provides technical support and direction for experimental and programmatic work in mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical/electronics. Develops, fabricates, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, selects, and maintains a variety of complex mechanical apparatus, plant/process equipment, and subsystems. Must have extensive knowledge of the APS Secondary Process Water systems, including water pump repair, replacement, and alignment and pump motor repair, replacement, and alignment. Provides limited cryogenic systems support and has operational expertise in magnet troubleshooting and repair, including magnet splitting, removal, and installation of magnets and sub-assemblies. Supports the execution of experimental programs and associated data collection, inspections, and records maintenance. Will provide direction to the MOM Group of technicians.
Knowledge, Skills and Experiences:
Responsible for providing supervision and work direction to technicians, including developing work schedules for maintenance, repair, and upgrades. Provide technical support on custom experiment set ups, accelerator and beamline problems, and equipment installations.
- Knowledge and experience in assembly, installation, and maintenance of accelerator subsystems.
- Knowledge of fabrication and repair techniques including brazing, welding, vacuum compatibility, cryogenics, and general shop practices.
- Experience in working with lead and activated materials.
- Ability to prioritize work in a complex technical environment.
- Oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
- Ability to provide work direction and prioritize assignments. Experience with, and knowledge of, lab policies and procedures related to hoisting and rigging, and building occupancy permits.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Some knowledge of radiation monitoring instruments and equipment and ability to interpret results is desirable. There should be demonstrated interest in science which should include course work in science, engineering and/or mathematics.
- Completion of DOE mandated radiological training and on-going continuous education coursework, as specified, is a requirement for this position, required to pass after two weeks.
- Interpersonal and communication skills required to interact effectively and tactfully with internal customers and to successfully develop effective working relationships.
- Some experience in customer service environment is preferred.
